The Introduction to Photography workshop will give you the confidence to move beyond the automatic setting provided by the camera manufacturer. With a little practice, your images will be transformed from everyday snaps to pictures you'll be proud to hang on the wall.


Get out and shoot!

This is a standalone workshop, aimed at people new to photography. This class is designed to introduce the basic concepts and is based on some of the concepts presented in more detail in Getting to Know Your DSLR and Understanding and Mastering Exposure.

Use your camera to express yourself

Modern cameras are designed to help you take clear pictures in most situations. In this workshop, we will learn to use the creative tools available in your camera to .put you in control.

What is covered?

The Introduction to photography workshop is aimed at photographers with a point-and-shoot or DSLR cameras who wish to get out of auto and start using their camera creatively:

  • Introduction to your camera menus
  • Using shutter speed to create effects
  • Using apertures to create depth-of-field effects
  • Shooting situations - landscapes, people, still-life, action
  • Using fill flash effectively

What you need to attend

You need little more than a love of photography and a digital camera!

Workshop format

This is a fast-paced practical workshop. You will be doing lots of shooting and practising techniques.At the end of the workshop you will be more confident with your camera and able to use it in many shooting situations. The workshop consists of one  session of 1.5 hours.
